When mural painting reached its pinnacle in the 1930s, American artist Thomas Hart Benton was considered one of the era’s biggest stars. Starting Saturday, Coloradans can view and purchase one of Benton’s pieces in an exhibition at the Evergreen Fine Art Gallery and Sculpture Garden. Such a high concentration of Benton’s work available for sale to the public is rare.

“These pieces all come directly from his family estate, and many of them have never before been offered anywhere,” gallery co-owner Barb Hadley says.

“Thomas Hart Benton -- Legacy”, which runs through June 6, displays a collection of original works and lithographs by the famous painter and muralist. A significant portion of Benton’s work depicts the people and places of the American West.

Benton mentored Colorado Springs muralist Eric Bransby.
