El Paso County commissioners have agreed to pay over $200,000 to settle claims against former Sheriff Terry Maketa. The Gazette reports that two former sergeants filed claims in 2014 accusing Maketa and former Undersheriff Paula Presley of harassment and emotional abuse.

Maketa retired last year, after 27 years with the sheriff's department, 12 of those as its leader.

This is the first settlement by the county since Maketa was accused of having affairs with three female subordinates, creating a hostile work environment and budget improprieties.
