The Durango Police Department will soon have the authority to enforce new laws prohibiting aggressive panhandling and banning people from lingering on specific medians in town.

The City Council passed two laws Tuesday night, replacing an older, more strict law the city stopped enforcing last fall after the American Civil Liberties Union argued it was unconstitutional. The ACLU is still is worried about the new ordinances, the Durango Herald reports.

Earlier this week, Glenwood Springs moved forward with plans to tear down a pavilion popular with panhandlers.
