Gangs Behind Half Of Pueblo’s Shootings

Pueblo police say eight of the 16 shootings so far this year have been connected to fighting between two local gangs.

The Pueblo Chieftain reports the latest shooting occurred Wednesday when a group of men broke into a Pueblo man's home, leaving him critically wounded.

Police Chief Luis Velez says police have arrested nine suspects in connection with the recent gang shootings. He says they are linked to drug trafficking in the city.

Police say they have formed a partnership with the FBI to help put a stop to the violence. The city will now have access to more resources including technical and forensic assistance.

Velez will brief the City Council Monday on local crime and violence.
