Aspen Residents On Alert For Bear Break-Ins

Wildlife officials are trying to catch a bear that's been breaking into homes in Aspen.

The Aspen Daily News reports the 100-pound juvenile has been in the area for a week and broke into two homes Saturday morning.

Colorado Division of Wildlife Spokesman Mike Porras says the bear has become accustomed to finding food in houses and will be euthanized rather than relocated once captured.

State wildlife officer Darren Chocon says the bear has been gaining access to homes through open windows.

Residents are being asked to remove bird feeders and other outdoor sources of food as the warmer months bring an increase in bear encounters.
