The Denver Zoo is asking residents of surrounding counties to help name its two African lion cubs.

A male and a female cub were born Sept. 10 at the zoo and are now bonding with their mother away from visitors.

Zoo officials say from now until Sept. 25, residents in the Scientific & Cultural Facilities District can submit lion names through the zoo's website. Those in Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, Douglas and Jefferson counties are eligible to submit.

After the deadline, zookeepers will select their two favorite names from each county and allow the public to vote on the remaining names. Zoo officials say the two winners will get to meet the cubs.

These are the first lion cubs at the Denver Zoo since 2006.
