In this Sept. 22, 2007 file photo, Mt. Emmons, known to the locals as "The Red Lady" towers over the town of Crested Butte, Colo.

But in Crested Butte, that narrative appears to have a unique twist. High Country News reports that workers have taken to camping out in tent cities near the town.

Melanie Rees, a contract housing consultant for the Colorado Association of Ski Towns, told HCN that houses in town were bought up and listed as vacation rentals on Airbnb and VRBO.

And as CPR News reported earlier this week, campers are putting pressure on a prestigious research lab outside of town.
