The Aspen Times reports that three chairlifts and more than 100 acres will open for a preview on Saturday and Sunday. The ski area will close Monday and then reopen for the season Nov. 21. Snowmass will also open Nov. 21. Both ski areas were scheduled to open Thanksgiving Day.

Officials reported that the slopes have received more than a foot of snow over the past week. Skico spokesman Jeff Hanle says officials checked the terrain after several inches of snowfall Wednesday and determined that it was ready for an early opening.

Vice president of mountain operations, Rich Berkley, says skiiers and snowboarders can expect "pretty decent" conditions.
