All Aboard Amtrak Between Fort Collins And Denver? Maybe

comes in at $1.2 billion -- a hefty chunk of change.

But in a story Thursday, the Coloradoan points out that an Amtrak route between the two cities would be much cheaper -- only $1.28 million a year for four round-trips a day. BNSF tracks already run from Old Town Fort Collins to the center of Denver.

CDOT project manager David Krutsinger told the paper that the route could be viable, but cities along the route would need to chip in first -- probably through a voter-approved tax.

At this point, "nothing is immediately being done," he said.
