Sen. Cory Gardner Endorses Ted Cruz For President

Republican Cory Gardner, Colorado's junior U.S. senator, has formally endorsed Ted Cruz for president. The Cruz campaign made the announcement Wednesday.

"It’s time for Republicans to rally behind this campaign in order to put forth the best candidate to stop Hillary Clinton in November," Gardner said in the statement.

At the state GOP convention last month, Cruz locked up support of all Colorado's delegates to the Republican National Convention.

Gardner originally endorsed Florida Sen. Marco Rubio in the contest, before Rubio dropped out.

Colorado's other U.S. senator, Democrat Michael Bennet, is a superdelegate supporting Hilary Clinton. Supporters of Bernie Sanders loudly heckled Bennet at the party convention a few weeks ago, urging the senator to change his position.
