Lacretia Wimbley grew up in the Magnolia State, in Jackson, Mississippi. She spent the last six years working as copy editor and paginator, as well as a breaking news and features reporter, at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. She also served as President of Newspaper Guild of Pittsburgh from Nov. 2020 until March 2022. Prior to those roles, she worked as an election stringer for the Associated Press and as a freelancer for the Heinz Endowments Magazine in Pittsburgh.
