Historic Palmer Lake Town Hall, 42 Crescent Valley Street, Palmer Lake, 80133

Event Description

Due to mature subject matter adult audiences only.
Join the Palmer Lake Historical Society & hear Ms. Shaun Boyd, Curator of Archives, History Colorado Denver. Shaun will present how the Klan pressured local governments, why it differed from the KKK of the South & why it grew to over 30,000 enrollees before dwindling & losing influence. The Klan was stronger in Colorado than any other state. Few Colorado residents know the influence of the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) had on Denver in the 1920s. How did the Klan gain power so quickly?

Staff at History Colorado spent more than 300 hours logging by hand & mapping each address listed in the nearly 30,000 entries in two ledgers in the organization’s collection that document the membership of the Denver KKK chapter from approximately 1924 through 1926.

FREE and Open to All! Doors open at 6:30. Presentation starts at 7:00. Come meet new people who care about the past & want to preserve it for the future. In case of inclement weather, see Lewis-Palmer School District 38 closures. We want everyone to be safe.
