Mimesis Documentary Festival is an artist-focused, community-oriented event encompassing short, feature, and expanded nonfiction ranging from traditional, experimental, docufiction, ethnographic, and regional documentary. The 2021 edition highlights more than 80 projects selected from open submissions and welcomes iconoclastic filmmaker Pedro Costa as the Featured Artist screening a survey of work from his extensive career including the critically-acclaimed, Vitalina Varela. There will be an opening night celebration with Brooklyn-based filmmaker and poet Lynne Sachs as well as several screenings curated in partnership with The Flaherty organization throughout the week.

Mimesis is a not-for-profit initiative of the University of Colorado Boulder’s Center for Documentary and Ethnographic Media and brought to life with major support from the Stewart Family Foundation, generous contributions from the University of Colorado’s College of Media, Communication, and Information, the Departments of Anthropology and Critical Media Practices, the Research and Innovation Office, and ongoing support from individual donors, audiences, and artists.
