The program will feature Julie Silver Campbell, soprano, from Opera on Tap and Solveig Olsen, soprano, with songs and commentary about Women Composers in Vocal Music. About Julie Silver Campbell
Ms. Silver Campbell is a Soprano from Colorado Springs, CO. She received her Masters from the University of Colorado, Boulder in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy. She currently studies voice with Ms. Andrea DelGiudice of New York City, and assists in running the Colorado chapter of Opera on Tap, performing opera in unusual places, making opera accessible to people who have never heard it before.
Julie continues to sing with her local Opera on Tap (OOTCO) chapter in Denver, CO. Currently, she is working on creating a new opera called Atlas of the Remote Islands, composed by Nathan Hall, with her Opera on Tap, Colorado co managers, Jerome Sibulo and Margaret Siegrist, after receiving a grant from the Denver Foundation’s Arts Affinity Group and Ms . Marcia Ragonetti. In the summer of 2022, Julie traveled to Narni, Italy and performed the “Sorceress” in Purcell’s Dido & Aeneas and a world premier of a companion opera to Dido and Aeneas called &Aeterna. In 2020 and 2021, Julie created a project with her partner, Eve Orenstein, called SEE/HEAR, Illuminated Stories in Song, funded by the Lafayette Arts Council. The unique project used the works of Nkeiru Okoye, Robert Owens, Ernesto Cordero and Richard Strauss, five local singers and four video artists from across the country. The project was live streamed on December 13th from the Broomfield Auditorium and the digital album is now live on YouTube.
In the summer of 2019, Julie sang the role of Agathe in a newly conceived production of Der Freischutz, produced by Opera on Tap Colorado. Julie also participated in the Utah Vocal Arts Dramatic Voices Program in Orem, Utah singing scenes from Tosca and Die Walküre. She also sang in master classes for Deborah Voigt, Peter Randsman and Allan Glassman. During the summer of 2018, in collaboration with OOT, Julie helped to create a program of three literature and opera shows for the Lafayette Public Library System, called Literature Out Loud. In the Summer of 2017, Julie traveled to Narni, Italy where she served as the Soprano soloist for Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater and the Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy. She also sang the soprano solo in the Mozart Spazenmesse on Italy’s prime time TV Network RAI Uno. She also covered the title role in Suor Angelica. In 2016 for the Narni Program, she performed the Countess in Le Nozze di Figaro, working with renowned Italian actress and director, Maria Rosaria Omaggio. She has also studied with renowned Italian Director, Mr. Paolo Baiocco. She performed in a newly created opera by Mr. Baiocco, with several colleagues at Opera America. About Solveig Olsen:
Solveig Olsen is a sought-after vocalist and actor. After years in Chicago, New York City, and abroad, she relocated to Colorado Springs, where she is frequently seen on opera, musical theatre and theatre stages.
With Opera Theatre of the Rockies, she has been seen as Anna in The King and I, Violetta (La Traviata highlight performance), Ellen (Lakme), Laetitia (The Old Maid and the Thief), Sister Margaretta (The Sound of Music), Jazz Singer (Trouble in Tahiti), Pitti-Sing (The Mikado), and most recently as Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), in the company’s 2022 Vocal Arts Festival Scenes Concert.
The stages of the Fine Arts Center at Colorado College and Theatreworks have featured Solveig as Sister Berthe (The Sound of Music), Margaret (9 to 5), Arial (The Tempest), and the Spartan Herald (Lysistrata). With the Chamber Orchestra of the Springs, she portrayed the role of Jennie Parsons in Kurt Weill’s opera Down in the Valley.
Colorado concert work includes the soprano soloist in Brahms’ Ein Deutches Requiem (Colorado College), Bach’s Magnificat (United States Air Force Academy), Schubert’s Mass in A Flat Major (Colorado College), Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5 (Colorado College Summer Music Festival), as well “Music and Words: The Poetry of Dana Gioia” and a concert of works by Raven Chacon, both at Colorado College. With Ensemble Peak Frequency (University of Colorado at Colorado Springs), she performed original arias with Pulizer Prize winning composer Anthony Davis, Pierrot Lunaire, premiere compositions of Pamela Madsen, Infinito Nero, with the Veronika String Quartet, and portrayed the role of “Prima Donna,” in Phillip Blackburn’s world premiere hyper-opera The Sun Palace.
Notable engagements include the roles of Pamina (NYC Symphony Space), Musetta (La Boheme) under the baton Metropolitan Opera Conductor Steven Crawford, Dvorak’s Te Deum and Mozart’s Requiem (NYC Masterchorale), and the national tour of Star Wars: In Concert.
While in New York City, Solveig acted as Musical Director with Desipina & Company at The Public Theater as part of the 365days/365plays National Festival by Pulitzer Prize winner Suzan-Lori Parks.
