Parental Leave Passes First Hurdle

Over the objection of some business groups, the House Education Committee passed a bill that would require employers to let parents take time off work to attend their children's school functions. Proponents say it would improve high school graduation rates and student academics, but critics say it's unfair for other workers and could hurt businesses bottom lines.
