As America debates major changes to its health care system, people are looking for models of how to do it better. Lately, they've been looking at Grand Junction. The health system there is ranked by one widely accepted measure as among the most cost effective in the nation - that means people get high quality care at substantially lower cost than most places.
A June article in the New Yorker magazine mentioned Grand Junction alongside the Mayo Clinic as examples of what's going well in American health care, and now people in Mesa County who run the system are getting dozens of calls asking how they do it. KCFR Health Reporter Eric Whitney has this story about how it works.
