Pueblo’s City Council plans to vote on same-sex benefits for city employees on October 9th. KRCC's Katherine-Claire O'Connor reports.
The announcement comes two weeks after voting 5-1 to table the decision. Council President Chris Kaufman says the delay was simply so members could study the proposal. Kaufman estimates the change would affect 1% of the city’s employees.
The administrative costs of taking those 6 people, assuming all 6 of those people decide they want to act on these benefits, the costs of taking that is projected to be at 54 55 thousand dollars more per year to the city.
Kaufman also apologized to anyone taken aback by the postponement. He adds if the proposal is passed it would have to move quickly since benefit enrollment is offered every October.
