Officials Will Not Pursue Charges in CSPD Officer’s Death

Colorado Springs Police Officer Matt Tyner was killed in late July during a traffic stop near Austin Bluffs Parkway and Silver Drive. CSPD's Major Accident Unit and the District Attorney's Office investigated the accident, which is protocol.

From the Police Department:

After reviewing the case, both the District Attorney’s Office and City Attorney’s Office agreed there was probable cause to issue summonses for traffic violations.

Our Victim Advocates then consulted with Matt’s family, who felt strongly that the other person involved in the crash had suffered enough and they did not want to cause him any additional pain or grief by putting him through a court proceeding.

After much thought and careful deliberation, and taking into account Matt’s family’s desire, the decision was made not to pursue formal charges.

In the hope of finding justice for Matt, the Department continues to search for the driver of the black motorcycle who was in the area of the time of the crash.
