School District 11 in Colorado Springs is hosting a series of community meetings to discuss findings of a self-performed evaluation. As KRCC’s Katherine-Claire O’Connor reports, the school board will present twelve topics for review.

Proposals include redrawing high school boundaries, and repurposing the Mann Middle School and Wasson High School buildings. District Spokeswoman Devrah Ashby says part of the survey examined buildings and the number of students enrolled there to determine if funding could be used more efficiently elsewhere.

“The next step would be to look at some of our buildings that are older and aging a little bit more, and how can we best keep up with those. And maybe ultimately in the long run it might be that we don’t use those buildings any longer.”

Each meeting will cover the same points. Although public feedback cards will be gathered, the School Board will ultimately decide on possible school closures and reorganization sometime after December.
