HIV testing and treatment options have come a long way, yet challenges remain

More than 3,000 panels of the National AIDS Quilt were on display recently in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco.

This week marks National HIV Testing Day — June 27. It's a day meant to encourage people to learn their HIV status and get connected to treatment if need be. 

HIV testing and treatment options have come a long way since the start of the AIDS epidemic four decades ago. But HIV advocates say they still face many challenges fighting a disease that has claimed the lives of more than 700,000 Americans.
