Because Glenwood Canyon through I-70 has suffered “extreme damage” from recent mudslides, Colorado has issued a state disaster declaration and is preparing the request for a federal declaration. Gov. Polis on Aug. 2 said that the area would remain closed “from a few days to a few weeks.”

When I-70 shut down in Glenwood Springs because of mud and debris flows the timing wasn't ideal for a lot of people. Like Darryl Proctor and his family from Littleton, who are preparing to take their son to Grand Junction for his freshman year at Colorado Mesa University.
