Both sides of the political spectrum fought in the primary race for United States Senate. On the Democratic side, Michael Bennet defeated challenger Andrew Romanoff. In the Republican primary fight for the seat, Ken Buck has defeated Jane Norton. In Colorado's 3rd District for US Representative, Republican Scott Tipton has defeated Steamboat Springs resident Bob McConnell. Tipton will face incumbent and unchallenged Democrat John Salazar in November.

As of late last night, Republicans Scott McInnis and Dan Maes were locked in an extremely close primary for the gubernatorial nomination. With 94% of precincts reporting, Maes led McInnis, 51 to 49%. In El Paso County, Sherriff Terry Maketa soundly defeated challenger Jake Shirk, with over 72% of the vote.
