Fire Burning Near Fort Carson Controlled; Evacuations Lifted

UPDATE: 6:30 p.m.: All evacuations have been lifted and mop up efforts are underway. Cause of the fire is under investigation.

Original Post 5:04 p.m.: Multiple agencies are responding to a fire near Fort Carson that has prompted a mandatory evacuation notice for Rock Creek Mesa and a pre-evacuation notice for a mobile home park on Piute Road. Smoke may be visible from various locations.

According to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office, Fort Carson is the lead agency. The Colorado Springs Fire Department and wildland fire team with the sheriff's office are assisting.

Fort Carson officials say the fire has burned approximately 5-7 acres off base. Officials at Cheyenne Mountain State Park have closed access to trails on the south side of the park as a precaution.
