  • Visitors of Browns Canyon in Chaffee County are invited to share their opinions of the National Monument in a series of listening sessions. The Bureau of Land Management and the U.S. Forest Service plan to host five two-hour long listening sessions in southern Colorado and Denver.

  • A recent study shows megadroughts could become more common throughout the Southwest. The study suggests droughts lasting at least 35 years will become longer and dryer as temperatures continue to rise. Justin Mankin is one of the authors of the study, which was published in the peer-reviewed journal Science Advances.

  • A new mobile app looks to incentivize users to help out the environment. The app, called YourCO, will allow users to log do-it-yourself conservation projects, such as picking up trash or turning down the thermostat, and earn badges and rewards along the way.

  • Manitou Springs is encouraging input from community members for the city’s first comprehensive master plan. The plan is expected to include a variety of issues, including housing, transportation, and land use.

  • The state health department is launching a new campaign to help adults talk to kids about marijuana use. Risks of underage marijuana use can include both legal and health issues. The $7 million campaign focuses on how adults can be a big influence on adolescents.

  • The Colorado Springs Fire Department is looking for new firefighters.  The Fire Department plans to hold orientations for those interested in applying, where they’ll discuss what the job entails and how to prepare for the interview process. Fire Captain Steve Wilch says they currently have 424 firefighters and are looking for more.

  • Wolf sightings in northern Colorado over the past couple decades have prompted a warning to hunters and others about the endangered species. Although Colorado Fish and Wildlife says there are no established wolf populations in the state, the sightings have experts thinking it may be possible for wolves to move in eventually.

  • “Conversation with Colorado” is a platform for folks to come with ideas aimed at bettering the mental health care system, and it stops in Colorado Springs on Wednesday. Andrew Romanoff is the President and CEO of Mental Health Colorado, which is putting together the tour.

  • Bustang has one year on the job. The Colorado Department of Transportation says the bus service has exceeded ridership and revenue projections set out one year ago.  The Bustang bus service connects Colorado Springs, Denver, Fort Collins, and Glenwood Springs.

  • The Colorado Department of Transportation, or CDOT, recently highlighted upcoming and ongoing road construction projects for southern Colorado.  Ilex Street and Highway 50 in Pueblo are included in the list. Joe Deheart is a Resident Engineer for CDOT. He says the construction in Pueblo is much needed and will be worth the delays.

  • An F-16 with the Air Force Thunderbirds crashed Thursday afternoon after the group’s demonstration at the Air Force Academy commencement ceremony.  Pilot Major Alex Turner ejected safely before the jet landed in an empty field near the Peterson Air Force Base.  He was taken in for a precautionary medical examination.  Lt.   • The threatened lesser prairie chicken has seen population improvements, according to a new report. The report comes from the Western Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies. Daryl Fisher is a regional biologist for the organization, and says last year’s data shows about a 25% increase in total population numbers.
