The Air Force Academy is planning a readiness exercise sometime during the day today.

The quarterly exercise mimics major accidents or natural disasters. Air Force Academy Raymond Hoy says the fabricated emergency situations help test response capabilities and detect any potential mistakes.

"It’s something that we do fairly often, at least quarterly. We just do it to make sure we’ve dotted all our ‘i’s’ are and crossed all our ‘t’s’ and we know how to respond in a real-world situation."

The exercise may cause some delays at the gates, but the actual scenario has not been disclosed. All Air Force Academy personnel are expected to participate in the exercise with the exception of cadets and school faculty. The Academy says that artificial smoke may be visible from I-25.
