Officer Matthew (Matt) Tyner was killed today while conducting a traffic enforcement near Austin Bluffs Parkway and Silver Drive.
Around 2:30 this afternoon, he was involved in a traffic crash, and died from his injuries.
The Colorado Springs Police Department’s Major Accident Unit responded to the scene to begin an investigation. A representative with the District Attorney’s office also arrived, which is standard procedure for fatal accidents.
Tyner joined the Colorado Springs Police Department in 1999. A statement from the police department says his “outgoing personality and friendship will be sorely missed by all those who knew him and worked with him.”
