Colorado Springs City Council, acting as the Utilities’ Board, chose a contractor today to help its advisory committee study the possibility of selling its power plants. As KRCC’s Liz Ruskin reports, the idea remains controversial.
The Utilities’ Policy Advisory Committee, or UPAC, is looking into selling or leasing the electrical assets of the city-owned utility. Several speakers at the meeting said they’re concerned that the study is part of a steady march leading to an inevitable sale. But UPAC member Jerry Novak says the committee is working to produce a solid analysis and is not biased toward any outcome.
"Absolutely not true. We’re conducting this so when it’s all done, it can be as bullet-proof as humanely possible, that it was done objectively and with facts, not emotions."
The board unanimously approved the selection of NewGen Strateigies & Solutions of Denver. UPAC can now negotiate a contract with the firm to provide project management services for the study.
