With the pending sequestration comes across the board government cuts, but many entities are already feeling the heat, including the Department of Defense. KRCC’s Katherine-Claire O’Connor has more on what that means for some local military establishments.

Air Force Academy Spokesman Mead Worthen says a hiring freeze is already in effect but more cuts are on the horizon.

"We are going to cut back on our expenditures such as, many of the equipment items and temporary duty assignments office base. For example people attending conferences."

Worthen also says furlough days for civilian employees are expected to begin at the end of April. A spokesperson for Peterson Air Force Base says no immediate impacts to operations have been announced. Fort Carson has previously said furloughs are possible for its civilian workers. A spokesperson from Schriever Air Force Base was not available for comment. For KRCC news, I’m Katherine-Claire O’Connor.
