Crews Make Progress on Fire Near Fort Collins

Despite fierce winds in and around Fort Collins, fire crews continue to make progress battling the Galena Fire in the foothills northwest of town. The fire is currently estimated at just under 1350 acres with 75 percent containment. But Emergency Services Specialist Tony Simons says he thinks that containment will increase through the night.

“The crews are making good progress at this time. They’re improving the line, doing mop up and securing the handline on the west side.”

Simons says containment lines are holding. Pre-evacuation orders for residents living north of county road 38E near the burn zone could be lifted as soon as tonight. Officials are saying the fire was human-caused and are close to wrapping up their investigation.
