This class provides participants an opportunity to read a highly influential early Stoic philosopher, Epictetus. Born a slave with a
bad leg, he gained his freedom and became one of the most famous philosophers in Rome in the 1st and 2nd centuries. This
will be a Great Books method class, where the students will read the short book first and then the instructor will entertain questions

Martin Cook: PhD and MA in Philosophy and Religion from the University of Chicago. Dr. Cook has taught comparative religion
