Crews are slated to begin repairs on the final damaged section of Old Stage Road in El Paso County this week. KRCC’s Tucker Hampson reports.
Last September’s flooding caused extensive damage, and the work will include repairing the road and retaining wall, and installing larger culverts.
El Paso County Engineer Andre Brackin says repairs on Old Stage Road have been ongoing.
"The damage was extensive enough we had to close the road," said Brackin. "There were several major washouts that took out the entire roadway section in several locations, and it also raised our awareness of the existing culverts there are very undersized."
The Federal Emergency Management Agency is covering 75% of the cost, with the remainder split between El Paso County and the State of Colorado.
Work is expected to finish before September 26th. The section will remain closed except for local access during the construction period.
